Week 2: What are the Core Democratic Values
This week students will:
· Read about the Core Democratic Values
· Watch an interactive video on the Core Democratic Values
· Take the Week 2 On-Line Quiz
· Create a poster illustrating a Core Democratic Value
· Participate in the Week 2 Wiki Discussion
Learning Objectives:
This week we will be looking at the Core Democratic Values and how they relate to us as citizens of the United States of America. At our in-class morning meeting we will discuss the lesson objectives, the on-line readings and address any questions you may have about the Core Democratic Values. Please remember that you can always send me an email if you have a question or do not understand the lesson.
The task:
1. Monday:
a. Click on the link below entitled, “What are the Core Democratic Values?”. Read and learn about
the Core Democratic Values.
b. Click on the link below entitled, “You Be the Judge”. Watch the video. Follow the instructions and answer the
questions presented to you. When finished, watch the video again and make different choices to see what the
outcome might be.
2. Tuesday:
a. The teacher will assign you and a Poster Buddy a Core Democratic Value. With your assigned Poster Buddy you will
make a poster on 8-1/2” x 11” paper illustrating the assigned Value. You may illustrate a scene or illustrate several
examples of what the Core Democratic Value means to you as a citizen of the United States. Be sure to give the name
of the Core Democratic Value, use captions, fill up the entire sheet of paper, be creative, and use lots of color! Click on
the link below entitled, “Poster Rubric” to find out how I will be grading your posters.
You are welcome to take the poster home to work on, however, please remember to bring it back to school the next
day. Students that do not have the poster to work on will be given an alternative assignment for Poster Buddy time.
3. Wednesday:
a. In-Class: Work with Poster Buddy to create the Core Democratic Value poster
b. On-Line: Click on the link below entitled, “Week Two Quiz”. Take the on-line quiz about the Core Democratic
Values.
4. Thursday:
a. In-Class: Continue working on poster
5. Friday:
a. In-Class: Present Core Democratic Value poster to class
b. On-Line: Click on the classroom Wiki link below entitled, “Fourth Grade Wiki”. Post your response to this week’s
discussion question: Why do you think it is important for citizens of the United States to know and understand the
Core Democratic Values?
